Before the Beginning. Myths & Legends told by THE GREEKS
by Ariel Pytrell
Description
Knowing, exploring and understanding Greek myths is an exciting task every time we can make them come to life. Let's go back through our imagination and open our mind to a world where mountains and seas were the daily landscape for ancient Greeks (warm-skinned ones with illusions, needs and fears like ours) who conceived these narratives which crossed the centuries and inherited us their symbols, magic and profound teachings. But how to approach these myths, how to make them understandable, entertaining for today's readers? Our best option: humour, a language accessible to all. Our world is trembling! Let's take a glimpse of what was happening before everything was conceived.

Author Biography
Ariel Pytrell is an Argentine writer, poet, playwright, and essayist.
Since childhood, he has shown great interest towards literature and the performing arts. In 1979, two remarkable life events shaped his mind permanently: reading JRR Tolkien's books and the discovery of the Ancient Greek world, which led him to the origin of the theatre and Mythology.
His academic background is eclectic. Although he did not finish his studies at the University of Buenos Aires, he worked for different publishing houses for years as a proofreader of literary, academic and journalistic texts, a professional activity for which he was trained.
His literary work also encompasses almost the wide range of genres. His books —many of which are translated and available into English, French, Italian, Portuguese— are sold all over the world. Among his published literary work, we find: (plays) Socrates. A Dawn in the Cave; Labyrinths; Shelters; The third mask; (essay) The Professor of the Rings. Concerning Tolkien, Sub-creation, and so on; (poetry) The Omissions and the Millenary Lover; The bite and the ink; Buenos Aires Nights at Babylon's; (stories) Ancient myths and legends of the Celts; Before the Beginning: myths and legends told by the Greeks; The Portal of Faries; The unravelled frames; (novels) Shadows from the End of the World; Variations on the Fire.
He studied acting at FAMA Institute and IFT, in Buenos Aires; tragic performance at the Hugo Marin's Laboratory of Drama. Later, he was trained in stage direction (EMAD, IUNA); screen production and filmmaking (BAC): scriptwriting for film and TV (Tatiana Mereñuk, Lic. Pablo Gaiano). He attended many courses and improvement seminars, among which stand out: theatre of image (Brazil); Physical Actor Training: Meyerhold (Jonathan Pritches, University of Leeds); Shakespeare and his World (Prof. Jonathan Bates, University of Warwick); Shakespeare: Print and Performance (Prof. Gordon McMullan, King's College London, Shakespeare's Globe and British Library); Drama production and theatre management (Gustavo Schraier, CELCIT); The stage director and the contemporary scene: Tragedy and Comedy (David Amitin, CELCIT).
Most of his plays has been staged. As a teacher, he has trained actors and lectured on Tolkien and his universe. His research and practice of theatre during almost four decades led him to develop and spread what he calls "new tragedy" or Neotragedy: a set of performative techniques and theory about the tragic genre for a contemporary scene.

"I don't consider myself fundamentally as a professional. I'm basically an adventurer." (Orson Welles) My company is me, my friends, who give their opinion about my work, the authors who discuss about which cover to use for their work, and my dear ghost writers who have always accompanied me. Together with this group of people, I have achieved a catalog of titles of constant sale, that do not age, ranging from local and Latin American literature to personal improvement books; these are "longsellers" I never stop reprinting them. I like books and I venture into it.
