Beales Corner

by Andy Frazier

Description

Beales Corner tells a compelling story of a young man growing up through the second world war in Bewdley, a lovely town in the heart of the West Midlands. The book actually follows two stories, that of old Jim during the war and of Tom, his grandson, who is staying in the town on holiday. However, when Tom starts to see things around the town that he cannot explain, the two stories interlock until they reach a thrilling conclusion.

Reviews

The children thought this book was excellent. Although they felt it began a bit slowly, they soon warmed to it. They liked the grandad very much and, of course, the central character, Tom. But it was the Grandad they liked the most. One reader put, ‘Tom’s grandad is cool. He tells him interesting stuff about the war like how the bomb dropped on his school and how he ended up in the army.’
The readers also liked the idea of Tom writing down his Grandad’s thoughts and his memory of the war. One reader put (girl, aged 11), ‘Every time grandad told a story I got to know him a bit better. It was really clever.’
