Description

In all the world there be no better workmen for buildings than the
inhabitants of China. Architecture of Chinese Wooden Covered Bridges
is a study of the architectural art regarding Wooden Covered bridges
in places like Zhejiang, Fujian, Gansu, Yunnan, Hubei and Chongqing,
etc. Special attention has been paid to some 100 ancient bridges in 17
regions within 5 cities located in Zhejiang and Fujian. Constructing
environment, material, scale, standard, structure, decoration, color as well
as craftsmanship are aspects for in-depth study. This project probes deep
into them and accomplishes a systematic reorganization. Descriptions in
prose, combined with visual materials such as architectural mappings,
exquisite photographic images and line-drawing illustrations from ancient
documents, successfully reproduce a full picture of the ancient Chinese
architectural art concerning Wooden Covered Bridges. Therefore, this
publication will fill in a gap in our domestic literature. The initiation and
publication of Architecture of Chinese Wooden Covered Bridges will
enable people to view these architectural remains in mountainous regions
of Zhejiang and Fujian from a brand new perspective, that is, to see them
as an architectural art that has created a unique environment.
