Description
This book is for all Ali fans. It's more than thirty years since Muhammad Ali last threw a punch, yet he remains unquestionably the best-known sportsman of all time. A whole generation now only know the legend of The Greatest, never saw him fight, and yet are in awe of the man and his fantastic fistic feats. The Ali Files gives the facts behind the fable. Author Norman Giller became friends with Ali when he worked as his European publicist, and he has gathered many other intimate eyewitnesses - opponents, referees, trainers, sparring partners, celebrity fans and ringside reporters - to Ali's astonishing adventures in and out of the ring. Millions of words have been written about ringmaster Ali, but few books have concentrated on the 61 professional contests that turned him into a sporting legend. The Ali Files will give you a ringside seat to the greatest boxing career of all time.

Reviews
"An ideal introduction for younger sports fans in particular who may regard 'The Greatest' merely as a shuffling old man brought low by a debilitating disease. Even this briefest of introductions will revise opinions. Giller sprinkles his narrative with a succession of illuminating anecdotes, telling us, for instance, of Clay's ridiculously high blood pressure immediately before the first Liston fight, or the actual amount of time the referee allowed him to recover after Cooper had floored him. Each fight's summary concludes with a 'whatever happened to...' section on the whereabouts of Ali's opponents. Some profiles are worthy of books on their own, although as 31 have died since facing Ali and a dozen more are suffering from pugilistic dementia, perhaps it's better we remember them as they were." --Sports book of the month.com
"I was pleasantly surprised how much of a genuine page-turner this turned out to be for Norman Giller's 99th offering to the world of book writing. The Ali Files goes through each and every one of Ali's fights in a format that is great for a holiday book, a train ride or whatever your timeframe allows. Each fight is documented with statistics of venues, dates, weights and purses and includes dialogue about each contest. The golden nuggets come after each fight, when you have the pleasure of reading a quote from Ali, an eyewitness and also a paragraph about, 'Whatever happened to (the opponent)?' The latter proved to be very interesting indeed. You won't learn a great deal more about Ali the person, but you will about him as the boxer and it was a pleasure to relive each and every bout. Certainly worth the purchase." --Paul Zanon, Daily Sport
"Within the pages of The Ali Files, there is a gift for boxing fans young and old... Cleverly, Giller constructs the book fight by fight and creates a distinctive narrative by recounting the ebb and flow of each of Ali's professional bouts and uses quotes secured post-fight from both Ali and his opponent. This offers a tremendous tone and currency to the recounting of his career and avoids the cliché and romanticism of other accounts. Of additional interest is Giller's notes on each of the opponents Ali faced and how their particular story ended or continues to unfold... Despite the weight of those often forlorn outcomes the book is enriched by their presence and they deepen the significance of this entertaining entrant into the crowded marketplace of Ali accounts. Few will strike as refreshing a chord as The Ali Files, or be written by as assured and authoritative a storyteller as Giller, and I would heartily advocate picking up a copy." --David Payne, Boxingwriter.co.uk
