Pulmonary neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) account for approximately one-quarter of all malignant lung cancers, the vast majority being represented by small-cell lung car-cinoma. The spectrum of NETs of the lung includes on the one hand typical carcinoids and atypical carcinoids with a more indolent behavior and, on the other, the highly aggressive poorly differentiated large- and small-cell carcinomas.
