Advances in Acute Coronary Syndrome Management

by Harvey White

Description

Acute coronary syndromes (ACS) represent a major burden for healthcare systems, with more than 4 million new patients presenting with ACS in the USA and Europe every year. Furthermore, prevalence is expected to increase as rates of obesity and diabetes rise. In the under-resourced developing world, the rates are likely to reach epidemic proportions, with India expected to experience the highest burden. Despite improvements in the secondary prevention of ACS through the use of antiplatelet therapy, cardiovascular death, stroke and re-infarction still occur in 10-15% of patients within 12 months of an acute episode. This book provides a rounded overview of modern ACS management in nine chapters by international experts. Topics addressed include etiology, the role of biomarkers, risk assessment, medical approaches, surgical and interventional approaches, imaging and clinical guidelines.
