Addressing Unmet Medical Needs in Rheumatoid Arthritis
by Maurizio Cutolo
Description
Rheumatoid arthritis is a multifactorial, chronic, immunemediated and inflammatory syndrome – a complex disorder for which we are still a long way from any sort of therapeutic ‘magic bullet’. In considering unmet medical needs in rheumatoid arthritis, this ten-chapter book provides an update on the therapeutic agents available together with commentary on how to optimize their use. The editor has convened a team of international experts to analyze the expanding armamentarium and discuss the use of single and combination therapies in detail. The book opens with an overview of current treatment, and the therapeutic agent classes are then addressed in successive chapters, including methotrexate, novel glucocorticosteroids, TNF antagonists, IL-6 blockers, anti-CD20 (B-cell) monoclonal antibodies, T-cell costimulation blockers, novel kinase inhibitors and novel NSAIDs. The concluding chapter addresses the complex question, “Which therapy for which patient?”
