‘As the first modern non-specialist treatment of monastic sites in Wales from the coming of the Normans to the suppression of religious houses in the late 1530s, this impressive book breaks new ground. Based on a wide-ranging programme of research, it comprises a clear and concise introduction and a gazetteer of all Welsh monasteries. It will be of immense value in taking research forward at any level. It places Welsh monasteries in their national and international context as well as demonstrating their importance in the preservation and development of Welsh culture and society throughout the Middle Ages.’
- Dr Glyn Coppack, Department of Archaeology, University of Nottingham
