Peter Carnavas’ storytelling is as joyfully entertaining and empowering as ever and A Quiet Girl’s poignant message is sure to stay with its readership, long after the story is finished. The CBCA’s Reading Time

A Quiet Girl by Peter Carnavas is something of a shout-out to all the kids who get overlooked because they lack confidence or happen to be more introspective. Carnavas’ illustrations have a delicate, hand-drawn quality; and while the colours are subdued, they vividly capture Mary’s emotional language. The Sydney Morning Herald
