Each chapter of the book features one month of the year. It begins with an introduction that points out the connection between the month and Chinese culture while explaining the choices of Chinese poems for the month. The book covers almost all Chinese traditional festivals with four or five poems to each month, thus 52 poems a year. A brief introduction to the poet is included following each poem.
