A Place Beyond the Heart explores motley shades of yearning and nuances of pain arising from social spaces, whether it is refugee precarity, maternal agony, suffering progeny, marital fissures, or lovers' distrust. In sliver-thin, lucent prose edged with quiet humor, Ireh presents us with resonant intimations of the pain from war, disability, morbidity, estrangement, interracial intimacy, gender and bodily differences. Each story in Ireh?s debut collection unfolds stealthily but with delightful force. - Uchechukwu Peter Umezurike, author of there's more
