Endorsements
“The feelings exposed in Un corazón demasiado grande are the same with which our hearts are made.” -Juan José Millás
“Characters who are about to fall and to find out who are they. Intimacies, truths, tension before the storm. The human being with all its nuances. What a discovery!” - Marta Orriols
“The mastery of Eider Rodríguez consists in revealling a truth that scares us because it is also ours. It's a great book.” - Nacho Vegas
“Reality is not the faded way in which we remember it, but a glow of beauty and pain in every line of Eider Rodríguez's stories.” - Belén Gopegui
“With as much intelligence as tenderness, Eider Rodríguez puts words to all that bewilderment and turbidity in our lives that we often do not know how to name. Very corporeal stories, full of meat, organs, teeth, smells and wounds, but also of memory, pain and desire.” - Isaac Rosa
“Good literature reveals, and that is what Eider Rodríguez does: She puts ourselves in front of the mirror through an intense journey through the shadows of our time. To read her stories is to know us, and it relieves and hurts.” -Elvira Navarro
Reviews
“A brilliant inquiry into social and family relations, 'Un corazón demasiado grande’ reveals Eider Rodriguez as a master of the short story (...) Eider Rodriguez has gone from being a brilliant and flexible narrator to the great writer she is now.” - El País / Babelia “Book of the Week”
“Whispered stories in a realistic style, whose surface invites to quote Carver, Cheever and other masters of insinuation and detail. (...) The writing and structure is always technically impeccable, with sparks of uneasy humor. But if something makes Rodriguez a timely and valuable author, it is the tendency to disarm any ethical signal that might reassure the reader by offering a unique reading.” - El Cultural/El Mundo
“Eider Rodriguez (1977) is a specialist when it comes to listen to reality and detect those dark areas that escape any routinary examination. (...) The topics that run through these stories are varied but could be summed up in one: the difficulty of what is apparently easy. With a piercing, dry, unarmed style, Eider Rodriguez hits the mark. The book is an x-ray of our fears. And this is why Eider Rodriguez is one of the best storytellers in our country. No one like her knows how to stop in the hidden corners of reality. This is where dirt, and, ultimately, reality, hides. Especially that one which we do not want to see.” - ABC/Cultural
"This anthology has all the necessary ingredients to capture the attention of the most demanding readers. Reading the stories allows us to empathize with the characters, and we see Rodriguez’s true mastership when it comes to capture human interiorities without artifices. The most everyday stories become emotional slaps and their protagonists have attitudes that are very familiar. (...) Each story opens a window to a range of different characters that hide deep wounds or a past that, like the mythical Sisyphus, they drag forever. ” - La Central Bookshop
"Un corazón demasiado grande is full of good stories that dig in the privacy of characters whose dark sides are not hidden, but are totally illuminated.”
- La Esfera de Papel / El Mundo
