        Fearless Parenting Makes Confident Kids

by Shulamit Blank & Orly Fuchs-Shabtai

Fearless Parenting is about parental authority in modern timesand its pivotal role in raising self-reliant, compassionate, and ethical children, and in preventing behavioral and even severe psychiatric disorders.   The last generation witnessed a backlash against disciplining children. We as parents are told to engage in negotiation with our kids about their behavior. We are afraid to be tough with them in case they won't love us or worse—break down. As a result, families today face severe behavior problems at earlier ages, and parents throw up their hands in resignation. The main theme and objective of this book is to prove that setting and enforcing reasonable and appropriate boundaries, combined with learning and education, could save parents' relationships with their kids and literally save children’s lives.   The book is unique in that it presents in a direct, simple, and yet profound way, real case studies and situations commonly encountered, along with severe cases of drug abuse, delinquencies, and mental disturbances. All cases are shown to respond very well to authority and boundaries adjusted to the specific situation and behavior. The book contains numerous references to professional material for the more advanced reader and derives inspiration from ancient philosophers and religious thinkers.   Shulamit Blank, M.D, is a pediatrician and psychiatrist, specializing in child and adolescent behavioral disturbances. Dr. Blank is the founder and, since 1993, CEO of a community-based educational and treatment facility in Israel for children and adolescents with severe psychiatric and behavioral disorders, in which she is successfully implementing her methods, preventing psychiatric hospitalization and incarceration, and minimizing the use of psychiatric drugs through teaching and education adjusted to the child's specific problems, such as ADHD, learning disabilities, etc. Due to her breakthrough approach, Dr. Blank is well-recognized and fully involved in the professional community worldwide. Dr. Blank has three children and seven grandchildren and resides with her spouse near Tel Aviv.   Orly Fuchs-Shabtai is a clinical psychologist. In 2006 she established a national program for the prevention of child violence. There are about thirty-five counselors from the therapeutic field in the program, which provides counseling to hundreds of families each year and to teachers of preschool through elementary school. Fuchs-Shabtai is the mother of three grown-up children and lives in Tel Aviv.   The authors strive to follow the ancient wisdom of the biblical aphorism: "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6).   An English-Language eBook  was published in fall 2014 by Samuel Wachtman's Sons, Inc., CA.

Mozart: The Man Behind the Music

        by Amos Navon

History records Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as a man whose melodies seemed to have sprung from angels, reaching him faster than he could write them down. How did he manage to develop and excel professionally in spite of family tragedies – the death of four of his six children, health problems, the failure to find work, the financial problems of his final years – while managing the task of being the busiest musician in Europe during the eighteenth century? What made this amazing musical polymath tick?   In Mozart: The Man Behind the Music, Dr. Amos Navon, classical flautist and consummate biographer, answers profound and hypnotic questions about the man behind the music by examining those elements in Mozart’s life that shaped his personality and determined his destiny, as the reader accompanies the genius composer on the journey that would depict the creation of his unheralded masterpiece, opera seria Idomeneo. In addition, the author describes Mozart’s remarkable development through writing wind instrument music for virtuoso friends. We also explore Mozart’s collaboration with Lorenzo Da Ponte, the librettist of his three greatest operas, The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni and Cosi fan Tutte.   But this is not simply a dry exploration of composition. We learn of the very human Mozart – of Constanze, who barely survived as Mozart’s wife and the mother of his children, and who, after his death, spent her life keeping her husband’s memory alive. The reader suffers through Mozart’s economic woes during the time he lived in Salzburg and later on in Vienna, his interactions with Baron Raymond Wetzlar von Plankenstein, and even his “begging letters” to Michael Puchberg. The rounded-out story of this intensely human being reflects Mozart’s dependence on friends in times of financial need, the role of gambling in his daily life, his attitude toward religion, and whether his ultimate dream of living a wealthy, bourgeois life ever really materialized.   Amos Navon, Ph.D. graduated from Tel Aviv University and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. A senior biologist, flautist, and participant in nationally known chamber music ensembles, he has previously published three books of poetry.      An English-language eBook edition was published in summer 2016 by Samuel Wachtman's Sons, Inc., CA.  164 Pgaes, 15X22.5 cm

Out There, in the Forest & Ein Ro’eem

        Two Plays

        by Shmuel Cohavy

Ein Ro'eem is a comedy that takes place on a kibbutz in Israel. Some kibbutz members create a show for a children's celebration and rehearse in a field amid successful and unsuccessful love affairs that threaten to derail the performance. Meanwhile, the kibbutz decides to cut down part of its unprofitable orchard, inspiring orchard workers to strike. Will they save the orchard? Will the love affairs survive? And will the show succeed? In Out There, in the Forest, three plots are intertwined. A British journalist is intrigued by a mysterious masked murderer in The East African Republic and travels there to find him. Who is this murderer? Is there a reason for his attacks, or is he simply a lunatic? He desperately wants to look the murderer in the eyes. Meanwhile, three American women struggle with harsh living conditions in a cave in the jungle. Will they survive their battle against nature? Simultaneously, the local population rebels against their ruler, who rose to power in a military coup. Will their revolt succeed or will they continue to endure the harsh regime? Shmuel Cohavy is an Israeli writer who spent most of his youth on a kibbutz. He also worked at the Timna copper mines and studied history and filmmaking at Tel Aviv University. Scinece or Fiction?

The Phony Side of Particle Physics

        by Ofer Comay

Countries across the globe invest tens of billions in particle physics, which relies on the Standard Model. This model is styled by its proponents as “the most accurate theory in history, in any field.” This book presents a long series of failures found with the theory: its inability to explain basic phenomena known since the 1930s; its prediction of particles and materials that have refused to be uncovered even in lunar rocks; the growing recognition that basic assumptions underlying the model are incorrect; and more. This is the first time these well-documented data have been compiled in a simple and coherent fashion, allowing science enthusiasts to understand the scientific failures and the sociological reasons for scientists' inability to openly discuss these flaws. Only a few dare to express their doubts:  “Ironically, from the perspective of QCD, the foundations of nuclear physics appear distinctly unsound.”—Frank Wilczek, Nobel laureate, 2004 (QCD is a central part of the Standard Model.) Can’t Swap Jokes with the Angel of Death

        by Lili Rebecca Kahan

with the Angel of Death is an amazing story of survival against all odds and a great achievement for the writer who was a teenager during World War 2, 1939–1945. This is the personal story of a family torn apart, always on the run from country to country, hiding, hoping not to be discovered and praying to survive.Lili Rebecca Kahan grew up trying to stay alive and helping others do the same. She survived dangers as a member of the underground in Budapest, often thanks to her knowledge of languages including German. There, under the Germans’ noses, she also helped other Jews by giving them new identities in order to escape death. Today, when survivors are leaving this world, she wants to honor the silent command of those who perished—remember and never forget. We, the last survivors, have a solemn obligation to testify, in the name of the dead and the living, that what we endured was a gruesome reality but also a permanent warning to mankind of horrors that might still lie ahead.Former president of France Nicolas Sarkozy so aptly put it when he said, “The tragedy of the Holocaust should be etched onto our consciousness as it is onto our hearts.”  An English-language eBook Edition was published in late 2016 by Samuel Wachtman's Sons, Inc.,CA. 148 Pages, 15X22.5 cm

        The Lazarus Shares

        A Wertheim's Return To Berlin

        by T.M. Löwenthal

With the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Germans offer to return unclaimed properties to the survivors and heirs able to provide proof of original ownership. This is the story of those who inherited the challenge of such an offer, those who would build a case to reclaim the assets and risk revisiting the past. Part exposé and part family saga, The Lazarus Shares is a tale within a tale, the story of emigrant wealthy Wertheims, Jewish Berliners whose present-day heirs face the ironic task of amassing proof of their family’s Berlin credentials. But it is in-between these timelines that the real story is revealed, a brother and sister trying to keep up with their mother, the wild Lili whose mastery of assimilation is exceeded only by her mastery of a vagabond life. Stretching from Kassel to Jerusalem, Budapest to London, Hollywood to Bogota, the story unravels one man’s stand against the past, Gus Maparae’s legacy to his daughter, Emma, the last of the Wertheims, the last pawn left standing. The author lives with her family in a small house on the Southern Carmel Mountains in Israel enjoying a view to Phoenician ruins, a magical milieu to her other pursuits as a teacher of Philosophy (Ethics) and local tour guide. An English-language eBook edition has been scheduled for publication in fall 2017 by Samuel Wachtman's Sons, Inc., CA. 360 pages 15 x 22.5 cm.

        The Power of Knowledge

        The Israeli Science Corps

        by Uriel Bachrach

Uriel Bachrach was born in Germany in 1926 and immigrated to Palestine in 1933. In 1945 he began studying chemistry at The Hebrew University in Jerusalem. At the end of 1947, future Israeli prime minister David Ben-Gurion realized that once British forces left Palestine in May 1948, seven Arab countries would attack the newly formed Jewish state that at that time was home to only 600,000 people—including women, children, and the elderly, many of them Holocaust survivors. The State had only 10,000 rifles and 3,800 pistols, no anti-tank weapons, and no artillery. Weapons could not be purchased from other countries due to an embargo, so Ben-Gurion decided to produce weapons locally. On February 2, 1948, Bachrach was summoned to a secret meeting where he and twenty chemistry and physics students were told to save the nation. For three weeks they studied the secrets of explosives, incendiaries, gas, and smoke. Gradually more young scientists joined the group and on March 17, 1948, an IDF Science Corps named HEMED was formed. In 1949, Bachrach returned to The Hebrew University and became the chairman of the Department of Molecular Biology. He has been a visiting professor at various American and European universities and was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Bologna in Italy. The Hebrew version of this book was published in 2009 and the author received a special prize for the State of Israel from President Shimon Peres. Uriel Bachrach continues to lecture in various forums about this unique chapter in Israel's history. The Politics of Insanity

        by Hugo N. Gerstl

America's friends and our enemies alike are scratching their collective heads and thinking, "If you turned the world on its side all of the loose nuts would end up in the United States." The Theater of the Absurd has come to life on every television set, smart phone, and social media outlet around the world. A megawealthy upraised carnival barker, who has systematically alienated every segment of society in the United States, stands poised to become the next president! Candidates deny the signs of global climate change—never mind, God will protect us, and since he's a Christian God, he will help us get rid of the Muslims in the process! Can anyone imagine two serious candidates for the highest office in the United States arguing over the size of their genitals? ("You know what they say about men with small hands...").  Welcome to The Politics of Insanity, a serious look at the newest form of the bizarre "reality TV." Where thoughtful, serious contenders eke out 2% of the vote at best. Where it's acceptable to say, "Would you want to have a president with a face like that?" Where a semi-nude photo of a candidate's gorgeous wife is splashed across a TV ad? But believe it or not, Ecclesiastes 1:9 is accurate: "There is nothing new under the sun." Political insanity did not start in the United States, and even in America we've been down this road before. Hugo N. Gerstl, author of The Politics of Hate (2012), slices into the "American Pie" of 2016 politics with a clear-eyed analytical scalpel, and, despite what appears to be an impenetrable tragicomic maze of craziness, he optimistically concludes, in the words of a former president whose wife is the frontrunner in the race for the White House, "There is nothing wrong with America that cannot be cured with what is right with America." Shattered Crystal

        by Baruch Cohen

A riveting historical novel about a Berlin family during World War II, whose members struggle to come to terms with conflicting parts of their identities. Widower Franz Kerner and his three grown children live their lives as loyal German citizens. With the Third Reich’s rise to power and subsequent war, they do their best for their beloved country, during those tumultuous times. Karl, the eldest, enlists in the Luftwaffe and becomes a pilot; Elsa, the middle child, works at a government office; and Helmut, the youngest, joins the infantry. But Franz harbors a deep secret, one that defines the Kerners’ identity. When he finally reveals the secret, their worlds are deeply shaken. Illustrating the characters’ inner struggles against the backdrop of the raging war, the author vividly recounts this intricate tale. The historical aspects in the novel are based on largescale, comprehensive research, and serve to shed light on major global events from a more intimate point of view, one that illustrates the repercussions of war for all of mankind. Baruch (Bobby) Cohen was born in Romania (1927) and, after previous unsuccessful attempts, immigrated to Israel in 1948 upon its establishment. The author served in the Israeli Navy, and later worked at the State Comptroller’s Office until his retirement as deputy director of inspection of Israel’s security forces. For his activities in helping the Romanian Jews between 1945-1947, Cohen was awarded the Decoration of State Warriors by the Israel Ministry of Defense. Shattered Crystal is Cohen’s second book. His first, The Decade of Tears, recounts the story of three young Jews in the newly-born State of Israel in the decade following WWII. Nordau to NASDAQ: The Evolution of an Israeli High-Tech Start-Up

        A Second Updated Edition

        by Miriah Yahil-Wax & Roni A. Einav

“So how much are we worth, in your opinion?” I spoke up. “If some party, yours perhaps, would be interested in merging with us tomorrow morning, how much would we be worth?” Rick Gardner lifted his glass to the light, relished its crimson transparency and said: “My estimate for your company is between $600 and $620 million.” Then he smiled once more and emptied his glass. This crucial meeting with co-founder Roni Einav marks a turning point in the history of The New Dimension Software, one of Israel’s most successful software companies at the time, which was eventually sold to Texas-based BMC Software for $675 million. Armed only with an M.A. degree in engineering and operations research from the Technion, plus his unshaken resilience and determination, Mr. Einav (Roni, as his friends and colleagues call him) started to make his way. The book candidly exposes the power struggles and bold decisions that led to the extraordinary success of The New Dimension. Mr. Einav's analysis of his extensive experience touches upon trade secrets: How do you recognize a good idea? How do you cope with bureaucracy or inner dissent? How do you identify or create a significant share for your software products in the global market? Where do you seek financing and what do you do when none is found? Roni Einav's personal journey coincides with that of the State of Israel, from its inception. He served his country as a system analyst in its defense forces, and as a civilian he participated in the planning and construction of major new towns in pre-revolutionary Iran. Nordau to NASDAQ is a unique and true example of the bigger story of the amazing talents, daring, leadership and dedication that made possible the birth and ascent to prominence of the Israeli high-tech industry, which led to the country often being called a “start-up nation.” This second updated edition also covers the last twenty years of the author’s career and his active involvement in various technology start-ups, including the founding of high-tech companies such as Jacada, White Source, Eurekify, and thirty other ventures. An English-language eBook edition was published in 2012 and translated into several languages. A Second updated edition has been scheduled for publication in Fall  2024 by Samuel Wachtman's Sons, Inc., CA. 288 pages , 15x 22.5 cm

        Energy Future

        Fosils and Beyond

        by Moty Kuperberg

We cannot survive in a world where oil is $200 per barrel and where prices are dictated by a cartel and influenced by Wall Street. The free industrialized world, the glorious oil industry, and developed and developing countries have all fallen victim to greedy oil price crises. The worst year was 2008; our energy security, which the IEA defines as the “uninterrupted availability of energy sources at an affordable price,” was harmed. Yet the average price of crude oil in 2010–2014 was over $100 per barrel, only to sharply decline to $56 by the end of 2014, followed by a struggle to reach $50—a price which is considered "acceptable" by the industry. Energy Future puts the oil and gas industry’s past and present in context in order to introduce an alternative future. This future is based on three main pillars defined by the author as ENERGY GPS: geopolitics = accessible, prices = affordable, and supply = available.   Moty Kuperberg is a graduate of the department of Middle Eastern history at the University of Haifa (1984), and he holds a postgraduate degree in business administration and shipping from the City of London Polytechnic (1988). He has over twenty years of experience in shipping and energy, and during the last five years he has focused on his Independent Energy Security Agency (www.TheIESA.com) as a platform for improved global security of supply. The Wall, Etc. by Hamutal Bar-Yosef is a collection of eighteen powerfully written stories, some of which are based on true stories. Israel’s celebrated writer Amos Oz called the collection "especially strong and heartbreaking." Hamutal Bar-Yosef creates in The Wall, Etc., a tragicomic, sometimes grotesque slice-of-life narrative that portrays the human condition as the yawning abyss between desires and reality. Her only brother was killed in Israel’s 1948 War of Independence. At age twenty, the author married the playwright Yosef Bar-Yosef and had four children; one committed suicide at sixteen. Free Flow To Eternity

        by Nili Yaffe

The book’s title attests to human will, as expressed in the poem “May the World Never End.” Throughout the book the writing is concise yet has depth to challenge the reader. Through the fast-pace writing, the reader is left with a sense of deep inspiration and is able to relate to the inventive poetry. There are mystical, ancient, and feminine aspects to the poems, which reflect hopes of humanity. The first part of the book contains poems about searching for a path and the latter part contains poems of resolution. Another theme found in a few patriotic poems merges with a universal aspiration for a life of peace and comradeship, which elevates them above time and place. The poems “Destruction” and “End” foresee an apocalyptic future of a universe in which there is nothing left to fight for. Alternatively, there are “The End of Days” poems, such as “And It Shall Come to Pass after Many Days.” The last poem, “The Secret Wishes in Dreams,” seals the collection with birth, describing it as the most significant experience both men and women have during their lifetime. It is about all human hopes, which are realized in the process of birth, where light envelops the infant and those around him. Free Flow to Eternity comes alive through the reader’s emotions and Imagination. Samuel Beckett

        Eine Biographie

by James Knowlson, Wolfgang Held, James Knowlson
